Driven by a penchant for practicality and creating stylish, attainable custom dwellings Susan Petrie-Badertscher launched her interior design firm in 2013.  Susan’s early career included developing large scale fashion and retail events for national magazines such as Town & Country, GQ, Vogue, W and Real Simple.  After being inspired by her love of nautical memorabilia and an obsession for defining personal style in 2008 Susan channeled her creative energy into forming Petrie Point Designs or PPD, a line of vintage, one-of-a-kind framed pieces that have been displayed in private residences, exclusive country clubs and boutique hotels. Through PPD Susan was fortunate enough to offer her design services and mesh her intuitive interior skills with her ability to find solutions for clients looking to obtain a comfortable, chic and inviting home environment.   After enrolling in the Parsons School of Design in 2012 Susan pursued her dream and expanded her portfolio by working with esteemed designers Miles Redd and Meg Braff and project managed residences in Palm Beach, The Bahamas, Texas, Maine, Long Island and Manhattan.

Susan’s passion for unique personalization and helping clients define their own personal aesthetic is what makes her unique. Utilizing her "memories made modern" product tagline comes through in her style...from mixing antiques/vintage items within modern spaces, to offering her keen design eye and aiding in developing an effortlessly and livable home, Susan loves customizing the needs of each of her clients. From concept to completion, spacial planning to reality, Susan client base has grown to include family beach homes, downtown lofts, and various high-end residences from Brooklyn to Los Angeles.

Inspired by my family’s vacations at the beach on New York’s Long Island,
Petrie Point Designs makes what is old new again. It’s the point where past and present meet; where vintage becomes modern
; where an everyday item becomes
a work of art.

During my childhood, my family spent summers out on the North Fork of Long Island. My parents would pack up the family and drive East to spend July and August in the sleepy seaside village of Greenport, Long Island.

Vacation back then for my family meant—as our parents reminded us “no TV, radio or telephone.” The simplicity of our summers allowed me to appreciate how to temporarily live with less and develop a curated eye.  The absence of everyday items never bothered us kids…we spent our summers building memories and watching endless sunsets at the shore.

The house we had was set right on the tip of an inlet on Shelter Island Bay. My father decided to bestow our family name on this spot we all loved so much. He dubbed it “Petrie Point.” My time spent at Petrie Point are what built my enduring love for nautical style and coastal comfortable dwellings.

Fast-forward to the present: My husband, childrenand beach-loving dogs and I have been lucky enough to follow in my parents’ footsteps now on Shelter Island, NY that overlooks Petrie Point. We love the timeless familiarity and feeling the island has to offer. It is my inspiration behind Petrie Point Designs. I hope each piece I create communicates this same feeling of warmth and happy memories to those that enjoy them—and for those that love to be surrounded by playful yet chic design.
